The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Travelling Far and Wide for Sydney Indesign 2017

Indesign The Event is on again this August 11-12 and this year, Sydney is playing host. But the attendees aren’t the only ones travelling en masse to take part – here are some of the regional guests we’re excited to see.

Indesign The Event is a community, everyone is welcome and everyone comes along. Architects, interior designers, industrial designers, artists, creators and creatives alike come en masse to have a look around. What’s new, who’s new, and what have people been getting up to? It’s informative and motivating as much as it is an opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues.

If you’re based in Sydney or Melbourne you’re lucky, you don’t have to travel far. Even if you don’t travel every other year Indesign will come to you. But attendees aren’t the only ones coming from far and wide this August. We’re particularly excited for a number of regional brands that have made the trip to ensure their presence is felt in our region.

Maruni is a Japanese furniture brand that was established in 1928 by Takeo Yamanaka. They were one of the first companies in Japan to approach the mass production of furniture with respect for – yet distinction from – traditional artisanal handicraft methods. Fast-forward to the present day and Maruni are ever intent on brining beautiful, functional designs to the global market that will last decades to come. Since 2010 they have worked collaboratively with the likes of world-renowned designers such as Naoto Fukasawa and Jasper Morrison. As their Australian retailers, SeehoSu will be exhibiting Maruni.

Sean Dix is a well-travelled man and his work as a product and furniture designer, interior architect and creative director reflect this. His furniture champions a clean and uncluttered approach to design, yet it makes a statement in its simplicity. Care of Obodo, Sydney Indesign 2017 in your chance to meet the Hong Kong/Milan-based man in the flesh along with his globally informed designs.

Marmo is a Chinese furniture brand that toes the line between opposing forces: hard and soft; diversity and simplicity; decorated and minimalist; flexible and functional. A pared back approach to design carefully staves off temptation to overdesign, hence Marmo is able to balance far-reaching appeal with unique design.

Have we missed anyone? Who are you excited to see at Sydney Indesign this year?

Make sure you pre-register here.
